Eat Healthy at Pipino Vegetarian Cuisine

Being a vegan, let alone vegetarian, is very difficult in here in Manila especially when we are surrounded with restaurants offering few vegetarian options. That is why Pipino was created by couple PJ and Alessandra Lanot, to provide more accessible vegan dishes to vegan/vegetarian eaters or to those who simply seek for healthier alternatives. Pipino is located at Malingap street in Teacher’s Village, Quezon City. It is quite difficult to reach the area especially those coming from the south, so they are opening a branch in Makati soon.

My friend Angel invited me to join her to sample Pipino restaurant for her feature article in an online publication. Aside from featuring the place, it was a chance for us to eat healthy as Angel and I are trying to shift to healthier eating habits by going meatless once a week. And, I can practice my food photography too.

The highlight of our food trip is their Watermelon Steak. It tastes just like steak, but once you bite you will taste the sweetness and juicy texture of watermelon. It is definitely a great alternative to steak, we got to enjoy steak without the cholesterol and the heavy feeling afterwards. The goal of Pipino is to transform every day meat dishes into vegan. We also tried their Mango Tango Salad, Portobello Mushroom Burger, Cold Soba Noodles, and a sample of different ice cream and cupcakes.

Because I was really inspired by Alessa and the numerous benefits of being a vegetarian, I went meatless for 3 days that week. It’s really a challenge to become a full-time vegetarian but I try my best to reduce my meat consumption in general and eat more veggies and fruits. One day, all the fatty, junk and fast foods will eventually haunt us and it is our bodies that would suffer the consequences, so let’s start thinking of our well-being by eating healthy NOW.
